About Us

The Rusty Spurr
Ranch Story

We’d like to extend a warm western welcome from Han and Connie Smith, and our son Wyatt—owners and operators of Rusty Spurr Ranch in Kremmling, Colorado. Since opening in 2001, our mission has been to offer the most authentic horseback riding experience in the Rocky Mountains. With over 50 years of combined horsemanship, we love sharing our Western heritage, ranching lifestyle, and stewardship of 10,000 acres of untouched Colorado country.

From start to finish, we want your time with us to be truly special. Our goal is for you to have fun, make memories, and feel the same inspiration we find every day in our horses and these mountains. Whether you’re a returning friend or a first-time visitor, we look forward to sharing the Rusty Spurr Ranch experience with you.

Meet Your Wranglers

Connie Smith
Owner | Wrangler

Connie spent her childhood summers in Colorado which led to her to attend college in Ft. Collins. She met Han in 2004 while he was in the process of buying the business and jumped in headfirst to continue growing what would become a 5-Star family run operation. She was born a horse-lover and makes sure each member of the Rusty Spurr herd is well-cared for. In winter, she enjoys skiing with the family, volunteering as a 4-H leader, and attending all of her son, Wyatt’s, school sporting events.

Han Smith
Owner | Wrangler

Han moved to Colorado after college for his love of the outdoors in both winter and summer. He helped build and start the Rusty Spurr Ranch in 2001 as one of it’s first employees and purchased the business in 2004. As the owner of Rusty Spurr Ranch, his passion for horsemanship, land stewardship, and western history is evident in the enthusiasm he brings to work every day. In the off-season, you can find him skiing, volunteering on local boards or catching up on the many maintenance projects that keep the ranch running.

Wyatt Smith
Ranch Hand | Wrangler

Wyatt has been lucky to grow up in the business and went on his first horseback ride at one month old. He has been a daily fixture on the ranch, when at five years old, he decided he was too old for daycare and wanted to work. He started joining his parents on cattle drives and trail rides and now assists with all the daily ranch activities, from tacking up horses to feeding and cleaning. He brings a great sense of humor to the ranch and reminds us all that it’s ok to be silly sometimes. When he’s not riding, he loves football, wrestling, track, skiing, and hunting.

Jon, a wrangler at Rusty Spurr Ranch
Jon
Wrangler

Jon is a Colorado native raised on a dairy farm and grew up around hard work, horses, and the outdoors. He spent his youth riding horses and competing in high school rodeo which gave him a lifelong appreciation for the ranching way of life. He joined the Rusty Spurr Ranch team several years ago after being a guest on their cattle drive activity. Jon feels blessed to share this special place with every guest and help them create unforgettable memories while enjoying the spirit of the ranch that he felt his very first ride.

Jonah, a wrangler at Rusty Spurr
Jonah
Wrangler

Jonah grew up in Amador, California. He got his start in the agriculture industry by farming a variety of different crops. He eventually had an opportunity to work for a horse trainer where he was able to get his start in the equine industry and hasn’t looked back since. Jonah joined the Rusty Spurr Ranch in 2025 and enjoys everything that living in the mountains offers. In the off-season, he works at Mt Rose ski resort in Reno, Nevada. Jonah loves meeting new people and hearing about everyone’s adventures all over the world.

Charlotte. a wrangler at Rusty Spurr Ranch
Charlotte
Wrangler

Charlotte grew up in Northern California and found her love for horses at just five years old. From that point on, riding quickly became a central part of her life. Throughout high school, she competed in rodeos and spent most of her time at the barn. In 2022, she moved to Utah where her family owns a ranch, allowing her to continue growing her passion and spend her days working with horses and cattle. Charlotte loves sharing her passion for horses with others and enjoys helping guests feel confident and comfortable in the saddle. When she’s not on horseback, you can find her fishing, reading a good book, or enjoying time outdoors!

Bailey, a wrangler at Rusty Spurr Ranch
Bailey
Wrangler

Bailey grew up in Spokane, Washington and got her start in horses by volunteering at a therapeutic riding facility until she could convince her parents for riding lessons. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Natural horsemanship, Bailey knew she wanted to be involved with horses on a daily basis. Looking for a change of scenery, she found the Rusty Spurr Ranch in 2021 and quickly fell in love with Colorado. What was originally a temporary seasonal job turned into a forever home.
